This course traces human history from the origins of primitive man up to the sixteenth century.  Emphasis will be on the development of key civilizations of ancient history, such as those of the Ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece, the Roman Empire and others around the world.  A guiding focus will be how these political, cultural, economic and historical forces have come to shape the modern world as we know it today.
