Neil Media Arts students Create with Purpose
Using digital tools technology to create works of art is nothing new for Neil Media Arts students. However, by taking part in Adobe Youth Voices program with Free the Children and Adobe, the grade twelve and grade ten Media Arts students were able to focus on creating art with a purpose. Students wrote, planned and produced video shorts of various types that spoke to an issue or an idea that mattered to them whether it is locally or globally. With the addition of some new audio production equipment this year, students were able to express themselves artistically in a variety of ways. Three fine examples are featured here. By taking part in the program, students have an opportunity to create and showcase their work to students and educators around the world, and to use professional software to create their artwork. The software was donated to the school by Adobe.
"Speak up, Speak Now", is an original rap song with accompanying music video that encourages bystanders of all ages to speak up against bullying in their community. Grade twelve students Jonathan Garcia, Alex Gomes, Josh Zamora, Ryan Rambarran, Jhon Albert Que, and Neil Rutherford produced the project.
"Dare to Dream" is an original song and music video produced by grade ten students Aaron ignacio, Earvin Solitario, Collin Melchior, and Daniel Alvarenga-Medina. It encourages youth to follow their dream.
“Seeds of uprising – Human Rights in Libya” is a video that educates on the crisis in Libya. It stresses on the violations that Gaddafi has committed. It was produced by grade 10 students Darren Perera, Duke Rupenthirian, and Corey Brown.
Please check out all three of these projects in the video below.
