Neil Arts Students Put Their "Creativity on Display"

On May 25th, Neil McNeil's arts department presented" C.O.D. Creativity on Display", a dazzling show of music, media arts and visual art from junior and senior students.  Thanks to the idea of a Grade 8 student, one Siobhan Kelly, St. Agatha’s Concert Band joined us for the performance. This was the second time that we have showcased a feeder school and we look forward to continuing this trend at future concerts.  Under the direction of Mr. Kelly, the Concert Band played an amazing rendition of "Don't Stop Believin", a song made famous by the 70's band Journey, and most recently, the television show "Glee". The Jazz Band was equally amazing with their rendition of "Red Baron", "Crazy Train" and bringing the house down with "Superstition". St. Agatha's Concert Band also played four songs, including Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" and Gustav Holtz’s “Mars”, proving that elementary school bands are a force to be reckoned with.  This year, the audience was treated to performances by  Mr. McGarry and the guitar club,  and for the first time,   dance groups “Flow Motion” and “Hypnotic”.  Mr. DiFlorio and Mr. Diez's Media Arts classes showcased incredible range with film production, stop-motion animation, digital photography, digital image manipulation, and audio production on Mac computers. Ms. La Vista's classes presented fine pencil drawings, plaster sculptures and self-portrait paintings, along with mixed media sculpture made of recycled computer and electronic parts and printmaking influenced by the work of Norval Morrisseau . Intricate mosaics were showcased on tabletop easels created by Mr. Scalpello’s grade 9 technology class. C.O.D. was a night that highlighted Neil McNeil’s greatest artistic talent to its fullest extent!  The evening ending on a high note (no pun intended) with the first standing ovation for the concert band in many years.  We look forward to next year’s Arts showcase events.  Hope to see you there!
